FORT WAYNE, IN - After two rain delays, and what looked like it was going to be a third, Head Coach Terry Darling waved the white flag to Mother Nature and headed indoors to get in the men's tennis match with Huntington University. The Cougars defeated the Foresters 8-1 in an athletic facility in Fort Wayne, IN on Saturday morning.
After sweeping the doubles matches 3-0, singles action took over and the fireworks began.
David Darling (6-1, 6-3), Aaron Mays (6-3, 6-1), and Michael Darling (6-2, 6-2) all won in straight sets at #2, #3, and #5 singles respectively.
Matt Wojtkowski won a thrilling three set match at #6 singles 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Thomas Calderone won the battle at #1 singles with Huntington's Vlad Khudziy pounding the ball back and forth at each other. This match was a war at 6-7, 6-4, 15-13 with Calderone coming out on top.
The win lifts the Cougars to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Crossroads League. Huntington drops to 3-5, and 3-3 in the CL.
The Cougars will travel to League leading Indiana Wesleyan on Monday for a match with the 9-0 Wildcats. The match is slated to begin at 3:30.
