The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team put the finishing touches on an unblemished Crossroads League schedule Saturday. The Cougars knocked off Goshen College 6-0 on the road in Goshen, Indiana to finish Crossroads League play with a perfect 9-0 record for the first time ever.
Six different Lady Cougars found the net in the win. Freshmen Corrie Good started things off for SAU when she took a Karly Linton pass, split a pair of defenders on her dribble and knocked the game winning goal past Maple Leaf netminder Natalie Thorne in the 14th minute.
Brooklyn Morgan made the lead 2-0 when she got on the end of a Kristina Sobel corner kick in the 25th minute and blasted a header past Thorne and into the upper corner at the back post.
Nikki Bonnema made a well timed run through a seam in the Goshen defense in the 37th minute and took freshman Rachel Shive's pass in stride, dribbling past Thorne's dive before slotting her shot in for a 3-0 lead from a sharp angle.
Karly Linton finished off the scoring for the half in the 42nd minute when she punched home a loose ball after another Sobel corner kick.
Freshman Alyssa Joseph picked up her second career goal in the 82nd minute, polishing off a pass from senior Ashley DeNio at the back post to increase the Cougar lead to 5-0.
Rachel Shive rounded out the evening with a capstone effort in the 88th minute. Shive took a pass from junior Clara Williams, turned her defender and beat the last Maple Leaf defender on the dribble before slotting the sixth SAU goal of the night past Thorne.
Spring Arbor moves to 15-2-1 overall with the win and has secured the #1 seed in the upcoming Crossroads League post season tournament. The Cougars will welcome the #8 seeded Bethel College Pilots to campus on Saturday for the opening round of the tournament. The match will kick off at 2:00 p.m. and the winner will advance to face the winner of the #4-#5 match between Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Huntington University.
