Morgan Powers Women's Soccer to CL Final

Spring Arbor senior forward Brooklyn Morgan made her presence felt in the Cougar's semi-final women's soccer match with Huntington University Saturday night.

Morgan opened the scoring in the fifth minute of play with an unassisted goal, and finished the game in the 109th minute off an assist from fellow senior Karly Linton in golden goal fashion with just ten ticks left before a penalty shootout.

In between the two goals was a plethora of offense for Spring Arbor, and some stingy defend and counter play from the visiting team.

Huntington tied the match in the 72nd minute on a counter attack, making good on one of only five shots they took in the contest.  Spring Arbor was not nearly as efficient.  The Cougars took 31 shots over the 109 minutes, placing 21 of those efforts on frame and forcing Huntington goalkeeper Caitlyn Adams into 19 saves.

Morgan's heroics (See below) were set up by a late ball up the wing to freshmen Corrie Good.  Good danced around her defender and served a ball into the Huntington penalty area that was met by one of nine Forester defenders that had compressed the space in front of their goal.  The resulting clearance was knocked down with a volley at the top of the box by Linton.  That effort was blocked by a body, but the ball popped right back to the Crossroads League's leading goal scorer and Linton put a nifty move on three Huntington defenders who had raced in to close her down.  Buying just a split second, Linton let a second shot go from the top of the 18 yard box that found it's way through the traffic and beat Adams, but pinged off the back post.  Morgan quickly rushed in and buried the rebound for her ninth goal of the season and the win.

Sophomore Sarah Yancer wen the distance in net for Spring Arbor, earning the win with three saves on the evening.

The Cougars (17-2-1) advance to their fourth straight Crossroads League tournament final with the victory. SAU will welcome the #7 seed, Taylor University to campus on Saturday to play for the tournament championship and the Crossroads League automatic berth to the national tournament.  The Trojans enter the final having dispatched of the #2 seed, Grace College in a shootout in the quarterfinals and then a 3-0 victory over #3 seed University of St. Francis in the semifinal. Game time will be announced as soon as it is determined.
