MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team won its second straight match to begin the 2014 season, defeating Crossroads League rival Bethel College 8-1 on Saturday.
The Cougars dominated singles competition winning all six flights, five of which were won in straight sets. After dropping the first set, senior Andrew Herlein came back with a 6-4 second set win in his match at the No. 4 position. Herlein completed the Spring Arbor sweep in singles with a thrilling 10-8 victory in the third-set tiebreaker.
In doubles competition, senior Michael Darling and junior Jesse DeBoer played to a convincing 8-3 win in the No. 1 spot. Not to be outdone, juniors John Hall and Tony Mayotte took out the pair of Ethan Turner and Luke Prude, 8-1.
The Cougars will travel to Upland, Indiana on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for their next match against the Trojans of Taylor University. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
