SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – In a rain shortened match, the Spring Arbor University men's tennis team fell to Huntington University 5-1 on Saturday in Crossroads League action.
The Cougars wrap up the conference schedule with a 2-6 mark while the Foresters improved to 4-2 in Crossroads League play and 4-6 overall.
Huntington would take an early lead after defeating the doubles pair of Michael Darling and Jesse DeBoer 8-4 on the No. 1 court, but seniors Andrew Herlein and Andrew Fitzpatrick evened the match with an 8-6 win at No. 3. The Foresters would regain the advantage, though, after edging juniors John Hall and Tony Mayotte 8-6 at the No. 2 spot.
The teams would begin singles play next, however, shortly after starting, heavy rains would force the match to move indoors. There, the visiting Foresters would take the first three flights and clinch the match.
Spring Arbor will host Lake Superior State University on Friday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. in a tune-up match before starting the Crossroads League Tournament on Sept. 30.
