MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team saw its fall season come to a close after dropping a 9-0 decision to Indiana Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Tuesday.
The 7th-seeded Cougars looked to avenge an earlier loss to the Wildcats, who entered as the tournament's No. 2 seed, but the hosts proved to be much, eliminating SAU from the postseason.
Indiana Wesleyan (9-2, 7-1 Crossroads League) swept doubles play to begin the afternoon. The pair of Michael Darling and Jesse DeBoer battled the Wildcats' top duo on the No. 1 court, but came up short 8-4. The team of John Hall and Tony Mayotte fell 8-0 at No. 2 while Andrew Herlein and Andrew Fitzpatrick were defeated 8-1 at No. 3.
The Wildcats never allowed the Cougars to build any momentum in singles either, winning all six flights in straight sets.
Spring Arbor finished the fall season with a 2-8 record.
