SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 9 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team found the back of the net early and often as it cruised past Bethel College 9-0 on Saturday night.
Spring Arbor scored four goals in the first 18 minutes en route to its seventh straight victory, which improved the team's record to 11-2-1 overall and a perfect 5-0-0 in the Crossroads League. Meanwhile, the Pilots dipped to 2-11-1 on the season with a 0-5-0 mark in league play.
Sophomore Abbey Fuller opened the scoring with her first goal of the season just 2:49 into the match. Less than 10 minutes later, she would find classmate Aubrey Schierbeek, who blew past the BC defense and beat the keeper to put the Cougars up 2-0.
In the 17th minute, Schierbeek lofted a cross into the box that found the head of freshman Bethany Balcer for her conference-best 15th goal of the campaign. Moments later, Schierbeek connected with Fuller who slipped a shot through for her second tally of the match.
The Cougars would also get first half goals from freshman Casandra Besteman and junior Alyssa Joseph to take a commanding 6-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half, SAU would continue to add to its lead with goals from Schierbeek and Corrie Good. Freshman Kendra Spencer capped the scoring in the 73rd minute with her first collegiate goal.
Goalkeepers Sarah Yancer and Allison Keizer combined to shutout the Pilots giving the Cougars their third straight clean sheet.
Up next, Spring Arbor will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to take on Marian University (11-3, 5-0 CL). The match is slated to kickoff at 7 p.m.
