SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 6 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team scored two goals in the first 17 minutes en route to a 5-0 win over Huntington University in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Saturday.
Spring Arbor, which entered as the tournament's top seed, dominated the match from start to finish. The Cougars racked up 31 shots on the afternoon compared to the eighth-seeded Foresters' five. The home team also held a commanding 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Bethany Balcer put SAU on the board less than three minutes into the contest when she headed home a beautiful cross from sophomore Aubrey Schierbeek.
Then, in the 17th minute, junior Corrie Good tacked on the second goal of the half. After taking a pass from Balcer, Good beat her defender and tucked a shot just inside the far post.
The Cougars would tack on three more goals in the second half, including a second strike from Balcer, to cruise into the semifinals.
Goalkeepers Sarah Yancer and Allison Keizer would combine to make three saves to help SAU post its third straight shutout.
Spring Arbor (16-2-1, 9-0-0 CL) will host fifth-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University (9-8-1, 4-4-1 CL) on Saturday, Nov. 7. The winner will advance to the tournament championship game on Saturday, Nov. 14.
