GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team ended its skid with a 6-3 victory over Calvin College at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts on Wednesday.
The win pushed SAU to 4-5 this spring and 6-13 overall, while the Knights dropped to 5-4.
The Cougars claimed two of the three doubles points before picking up four victories in singles action. The duo of Michael Darling and Jesse DeBoer earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles while Andrew Herlein and Andrew Fitzpatrick rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Herlein continued his hot-start to the spring season by capturing his sixth consecutive win in singles play, edging out Calvin's David Brown in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Darling, Tony Mayotte and Jacob Byrd also secured points for the Cougars at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Up next, Spring Arbor will host Rochester College on Friday, Apr. 10 at 1 p.m. and Greenville College on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 11 a.m.
