WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team dropped a pair of Crossroads League matches to close out the week. The Cougars fell to Goshen College 9-0 before stumbling 8-1 at Grace College.
In the match against Goshen, Spring Arbor came close to claiming two points in doubles action, but the Maple Leafs narrowly escaped with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Senior Jesse DeBoer and freshman Nick Romano were edged 9-7 at No. 1 while juniors Vincent McShane and Jacob Byrd fell by an identical score at No. 2.
The Leafs would go on to capture all six singles matches en route to the 9-0 victory, and stay undefeated on the season.
The Cougars traveled to Grace on Saturday and would battle the unbeaten Lancers closely in several matches but ultimately fall 8-1. Earning the lone point for SAU was freshman Sam Head at No. 6 singles.
Spring Arbor (1-3, 1-3 Crossroads League) will travel to Marian University on Tuesday, Sept. 15 before competing in the ITA Tournament on Sept. 17-19 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
