SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team suffered its first setback of the season on Tuesday, falling 6-3 to Taylor University in Crossroads League action.
After dropping the first two doubles matches, the Cougars avoided the sweep with juniors Jacob Byrd and Vincent McShane earning a hard-fought 9-8 victory at No. 2 doubles.
However, Taylor (1-2, 1-2 Crossroads League) would claim four of the six singles matches to secure the overall win. Freshman Nick Romano picked up his second win of the season with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles while fellow freshman Josh Scott also remained unbeaten, prevailing 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Spring Arbor (1-1, 1-1 Crossroads League) will host Goshen College (2-0, 2-0 Crossroads League) on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
