ALMA, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team battled a tough Alma College squad on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Scots 6-3 in its spring opener.
Alma (1-1) grabbed the early advantage after sweeping doubles competition, including a narrow 9-8 win over senior Jesse DeBoer and freshman Nick Romano at the No. 1 position.
The Cougars battled back in singles play, though, getting straight-set victories from DeBoer and Romano at No. 1 and No. 2, while junior Vincent McShane prevailed in three sets at No. 5. Junior Jacob Byrd and freshman Sam Head fought back after each dropping the opening set, but both would ultimately fall in three.
