ADRIAN, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team fell to local rival Adrian College on Friday afternoon.
Despite two very tightly contested doubles matches, Adrian (3-3) grabbed a 3-0 lead heading into singles competition. It took a tiebreaker at, both, No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles to determine a winner. Senior Jesse DeBoer and freshman Nick Romano went up on their opponents 3-1 on the No. 1 court, but would ultimately fall 9-8 (10-8). The team of junior Jacob Byrd and sophomore Thomas Hall also nearly pulled out the win but were edged out 9-8 (10-2).
The action in singles play proved to be just as exciting with three matches needing three sets. Romano and junior Vincent McShane picked up the lone points for the Cougars at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Up next, Spring Arbor (2-9) will travel to Hillsdale College to take on the Chargers on Friday, Feb. 26 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
