ALBION, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring on Wednesday, defeating Albion College 7-2.
The Cougars began the afternoon with a sweep of doubles competition. Jesse DeBoer and Nick Romano came away with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, while on the No. 2 court Tony Mayotte and Vincent McShane prevailed 8-4. The duo of Jacob Byrd and Thomas Hall wrapped things up with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.
In singles action, Spring Arbor won the top three matches as well as No. 6. DeBoer, Romano and Sam Head all defeated their opponents in straight sets while Byrd escaped in a third set tiebreaker.
Spring Arbor (3-10) will now set its sights on its spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. which begins with a match against Roosevelt University (5-0) on Monday, Mar. 7 at noon at the Evian Tennis Center.
