Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team erased a nine-run deficit in game one of Monday's doubleheader with Goshen College before ultimately falling to the Maple Leafs 20-15 in 10 innings.
Despite falling behind 13-4 after 4.5 innings, Spring Arbor refused to go down without a fight, scoring seven unanswered runs, including four in the bottom of the seventh, to send the game into extra innings. However, the Maple Leafs would score five times in the 10th inning to outlast SAU.
In game two of the scheduled twin bill, Goshen led 3-1 through three full innings before the game was suspended due to darkness. The teams will resume play when Spring Arbor visits GC on Friday, Apr. 26.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor trailed 13-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but battled all the way back to tie the game with 10 runs on nine hits over the next three innings. The Cougars scored three in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh to even the score.
- Goshen regained the lead with a run in the eighth, but SAU refused to go down without fight. A clutch, two-out single by Sydney Taylor in the home half of the eighth brought home Hope Longenbarger to tie things up.
- After a scoreless ninth, the Maple Leafs would string together six consecutive hits to start the 10th inning on their way to plating five runs.
- Four different Cougars recorded three hits, including Taylor, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI's and a run scored. Cora Millay, Chloe Gignac and Kyla Semones also collected three hits. Longenbarger was 2-for-4 with five runs scored while Sarah Matlock drove in three runs.
- Marisa Morgan was solid out of the bullpen. The freshman pitcher worked 3.1 innings of relief and limited the Goshen offense, giving the Cougars' bats a chance to get back in the game.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Goshen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but an RBI double by Longenbarger in the bottom of the inning leveled the score.
- The Maple Leafs scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning.
- The game was suspended due to darkness after three innings of play and will be resumed on Friday, Apr. 26.
