KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team opened its Spring Break trip on Friday. In their first two games of the day, the Cougars lost to Calumet College of St. Joseph, 10-3, and fell to Florida National University, 3-2.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

• Calumet scored three runs in the first and added two more in the second to grab an early 5-0 lead.
• Spring Arbor cut into the deficit in the bottom of the second when Maddison Brock delivered a two-out, two-RBI hit scoring Hope Longenbarger and Gabby Nafziger.
• Calumet held a 6-3 lead after five innings, but began pulling away late, scoring four unanswered runs over the final two frames.
• Chloe Gignac and Jessie Panchaud posted two hits each while Lean Denome also drove in one run.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

• Melody Donovan and Florida National's Natasha Trujillo found themselves in a pitchers' duel.
• Florida National plated a single run in the second and third innings to go up 2-0 after three innings, but Donovan would shut the Conquistadors down the rest of the way.
• After being held scoreless through five innings, Spring Arbor broke through against Trujillo in the sixth, scoring twice to tie the score. Cora Millay scored on an RBI groundout by Kelsey Sturgeon and Denome crossed the plate on a clutch single by Sarah Matlock.
• Florida National walked-off with the win, however, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
• Jade Nowe was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while four other Cougars also collected hits.
• Donovan pitched 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, but only two earned. She allowed just three hits and struck out three batters.
