Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team closed out its first day in Florida with a 6-4 win over the University of St. Thomas.
Hope Longenbarger led the way offensively for the Cougars, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored while freshman pitcher Hannah Laurin earned her first collegiate win in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- That was how the score stayed until the fifth inning when the Cougars erupted for four runs. Longenbarger got the scoring started with an RBI hit and Jade Nowe followed with an RBI double, chasing STU starting pitcher. Kelsey Sturgeon greeted the hurler with a base hit to drive in Longenbarger and pinch-runner Sydney Lee.
- St. Thomas rallied for four in the top of the sixth, but that would be as close as the Bobcats would get. Lauren Heath entered the game as a relief pitcher and slammed the door shut on the Bobcats to earn the save.
- Longenbarger picked up three hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Chloe Gignac, Jessie Panchaud, and Sturgeon also recorded multi-hit games.
- Laurin pitched five shutout innings before the Bobcats were able to breakthrough for four in the sixth. She allowed seven hits and struck out five batters.

Spring Arbor will play two more games on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Cougars open with Trinity International University at 10:15 a.m. before facing the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 12:30 p.m.
