Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team closed out day two in Florida with a 3-1 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Senior pitcher Lauren Wirgau was outstanding in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings with no earned runs and striking out three to earn the win.
Prior to the matchup with Michigan-Dearborn, the Cougars fell 3-0 to Trinity International in the first game of the day.

VS. TRINITY INTERNATIONAL
- Spring Arbor was unable to get much going offensively against Trinity International. TIU's Alyssa Frey held the Cougars scoreless over seven innings and allowed just four hits.
- The score was 0-0 after three, but the Trojans broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth. A two-out, RBI single brought home the game's first run, and a two-run homer gave TIU a 3-0 advantage.
- Hope Longenbarger picked up one of SAU's four hits with a double. Maddison Brock, Abbey Burdgick and Cora Millay also hit safely.
- Melody Donovan pitched 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits. Hannah Laurin tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving up two hits while fanning four batters.
VS. MICHIGAN-DEARBORN
- Wirgau was brilliant in the circle in the second game of the day against Michigan-Dearborn. The senior pitcher pitched 5.1 innings allowing only one unearned run and struck out three batters.
- In each of the first three innings, the Wolverines found ways to get runners in scoring position, including a runners on second and third with one out situation in the third. Each time, however, Wirgau, backed by her defense, clamped down and kept the UMD off the scoreboard.
- The SAU offense came through with a pair of runs in the fourth. Brookelyn Stafford delivered an RBI double to score Gabby Nafziger. Then, two batters later, Jessie Panchaud doubled to right-center to bring in Stafford.
- The Cougars added an insurance run in the sixth when Laurin scored on a Michigan-Dearborn error.
- Michigan-Dearborn scored an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the sixth, but Kelsey entered out of the bullpen and dashed any hopes of a comeback.
- Longenbarger continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-3. Through the first five games in Florida, she is batting .500 (8-for-16) with three doubles.
- Panchaud and Allison VanBrandt also picked up two hits apiece.
