Box Score 2 SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team swept a Crossroads League doubleheader from Huntington University on Thursday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Field. The Cougars defeated the Foresters 7-3 in game one and 5-1 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Cora Millay and Jessie Panchaud had RBI hits in the second inning to put Spring Arbor on top 3-0 early.
- The Cougars added another run in the third on a Hope Longenbarger solo home run – her second of the season.
- Huntington made it a two-run game, 4-2, after plating two runs in the fourth inning, but SAU responded with three runs in the fourth to widen the margin. The Cougars scored twice on double steals and Jade Nowe capped the scoring with an RBI hit driving in Chloe Gignac.
- Leah Denome was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored while Gignac and Millay recorded two hits each.
- Lauren Wirgau pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering three runs on five hits while striking out three batters. Hannah Laurin added 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams were scoreless through four innings before Spring Arbor crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the fifth. Panchaud and Gignac delivered back-to-back two-out RBI hits to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
- The Foresters pushed a run across in the sixth, but SAU answered with three big insurance runs in the home half of the inning. Maddison Brock had the big hit, a two-RBI double to left-center bringing in Sarah Matlock and Brookelyn Stafford.
- Brock went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored while Nowe also picked up two hits.
- Melody Donovan earned the win pitching six strong innings allowing only one run on three hits. Laurin closed out the game tossing a scoreless seventh inning.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor has suspended all competition for all of its teams effective until April 1 due to the coronavirus and to reduce the risk from the COVID-19 outbreak. The department will continue to consult with university leadership, the Crossroads League, NAIA officials and other local authorities as the situation progresses.
