The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team got a convicing 4-0 win over visiting Asbury College in their home opener today.
Senior
Megan Wegener paced the Cougars with a pair of goals, scoring on two of her four shots on frame. Wegener blasted seven shots in total. Junior
Karly Linton proved to be in mid-season form as well, scoring a solo goal and passing out two assists in the contest. Linton led all attackers with eight shots on the afternoon. Senior forward
Maegan Smith chipped in with a goal and assist of her own while freshman
Shannon Balcer earned her first collegiate point passing out an assist on Smith's goal.
The Cougars used twenty-one players in the contest and out-shot the visitors 39-1, with a 20-1 advantage in shots on goal.
"This was a good first outing for us," commented SAU head coach
Jason Crist. "The girls played hard and moved the ball pretty well considering it's early in the year. We created a lot of chances to score goals and kept things pretty organized in the back. It's a good building block as we move forward towards next week."
Freshman goalkeeper
Sarah Yancer turned away one shot in picking up her first collegiate clean sheet.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on Cornerstone University. The match is scheudled to kick off at 4:00 p.m.
