Men's Soccer falls at Indiana Wesleyan

MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early first half goal by Indiana Wesleyan University as the Cougars fell 1-0 at Wildcat Field on Wednesday night.

Indiana Wesleyan's Keaton Albert – the reigning Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Year – delivered what proved to be the game-winner in the 20th minute to snap SAU's three match winning streak.

"I have a lot of respect for IWU," said head coach Nathan Miller. "They know how to get results and compete at a high level. Keaton is just as class of a player as you will find."

Indiana Wesleyan (12-4-0, 7-1-0 CL) held the edge in the first half, outshooting Spring Arbor 7-1, and would take its 1-0 advantage into the intermission. Despite a strong effort in the second stanza, the slow start would ultimately cost the Cougars as they were unable to find an equalizer.

"We finished the game really well and were banging on the door," commented Miller. "I really thought we had an equalizer in us."

Senior Stevenson Storm led the team with two shots while junior goalkeeper Abe Bonn finished the match with four saves.

"Coming in I thought one goal against would be enough, but you have to give a lot of credit to that senior laden team," added Miller. "We did not execute in a lot of areas in the first half. We just weren't ourselves, and the first half was the difference. The belief I have in this group is unwavering.

Spring Arbor (9-6-2, 4-3-1 CL) will wrap up its regular season schedule when it hosts the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) (0-15-1, 0-7-1 CL) for Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
