Baseball falls at No. 15 Keiser

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team fell to No. 15 ranked Keiser University 18-5 on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars recorded a season-high five runs and 15 hits, but it would not be enough as the Seahawks used an 11-run sixth inning to hand SAU its third straight setback.

Jeremiah Johnson put Spring Arbor on top early with a two-RBI double in the top of the first inning. However, Keiser (16-5) answered in the home half of the first when Keivan Berges hit a two-run home run to tie the score.

The Cougars regained the lead in the second inning when Chris Triplett scored on an RBI groundout by Francisco Ondina, and the team would increase its advantage to 4-2 following a home run by Johnson in the fifth.

The Seahawks responded again though with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a three-run home run by Berges – his second long ball of the game.

Spring Arbor narrowed the deficit to two, 7-5, after Jack Driscoll belted his first career homer in the sixth, but Keiser would erupt for 11 runs in the bottom of the frame to help secure its ninth straight win.

Driscoll and Johnson picked up three hits apiece to pace the Cougars. Three players registered two hits including Conner Lengerich, Jonathan Newman and Alex Holley.

Brody Harris went four innings in his season debut on the mound surrendering two runs on three hits.

Spring Arbor (1-3) will be back in action tomorrow when it visits Southeastern University (14-11). First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
