Box Score 2 WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team rallied to score three runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to come away with a 4-3 game two victory, splitting its Friday doubleheader against Grace College. Grace took game one by a score of 2-1.
The Cougars remain in a tie for third place in the Crossroads League standings with a 9-7 mark in league play and a 14-18 record overall. The Lancers moved to 19-21 on the season and 6-12 in the conference.
Spring Arbor pitcher Brody Harris was brilliant in game one holding Grace scoreless for the first six innings. However, the Cougars were unable to get their bats going against GC's Logan Grigsby, who did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.
The Cougars were able to manufacture some offense in the sixth inning, though. Chris Triplett was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, and he advanced to second base on a balk before stealing third. Two batters later, Triplett would score on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Reed.
After being shut down by Harris for six innings, the Lancers broke through in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs to walk off with the win.
Spring Arbor was limited to two hits, including a double by Jeremiah Johnson.
Harris worked 6.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven.
The Cougars grabbed an early lead in game two on a first inning home run by Reed, but the Lancers countered with two in the home half of the first to jump in front.
Grace padded its lead with a run in the third, and the score would remain 3-1 until the seventh. After struggling to get any offense going, SAU pushed three runs across in the final frame to take the lead. Alex Holley got it all started with a single, and after Nate Sitkiewicz reached base on an error, Nick Harris singled to load the bases with nobody out. James Hall, who entered as a pinch runner for Sitkiewicz scored on a fielder's choice and Harris crossed the plate after Jack Driscoll was hit by a pitch. The Cougars would take the lead the very next batter when Francisco Ondina scored on a fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the seventh, Andrew Wright slammed the door shut, retiring the side in order to complete the come from behind victory.
Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored while Reed finished with two RBI and a run scored.
Wright earned the win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Spring Arbor will complete its four-game series with Grace with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 23 starting at 1 p.m.
