Baseball beats Siena Heights, falls to Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team picked up its third straight win after defeating Siena Heights University 8-2 Monday, but saw its streak snapped with a 15-7 loss to Webber International University in the second game of the day.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Chris Triplett led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line and would come around to score on an RBI groundout by Alex Holley to put SAU on top 1-0 early.
  • Siena Heights grabbed the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run, but the Cougars answered in the bottom of the frame to tie the score. After Triplett walked to lead off the inning, Conner Lengerich would triple to drive him in.
  • Spring Arbor would take the lead with a run in the fourth before adding five more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
  • Triplett went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Jack Driscoll also collected two hits. Nick Harris went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
  • Joe Romence was outstanding on the mound. The right-hander allowed just two runs over six innings of work while striking out six batters. Nick Carroll added one scoreless inning of relief.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Webber International jumped out in front with six runs in the third inning.
  • Spring Arbor clawed its way back into the game posting five unanswered runs. Driscoll delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning while a two-RBI single by Lengerich capped a four run fifth inning.
  • The Warriors broke the game open, however, after scoring seven times in the sixth inning.
  • Driscoll and Harris picked up three hits apiece to pace the offense while Lengerich finished with two.
  • Andrew Manier suffered the loss giving up six runs over 2.2 innings.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will travel to Lakeland, Florida on Tuesday to take on Southeastern University (20-1). First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
