Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. – A five-run fifth inning by Spring Arbor University helped the team win its Crossroads League opener 7-6 against Goshen College on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Goshen started the bottom of the first inning with four consecutive hits on its way to grabbing an early 2-0 lead.
- Spring Arbor got a run back in the third inning after a double by Francisco Ondina brought home Jack Driscoll.
- After the rocky start, senior pitcher Sam Memmelaar settled in and retired the Maple Leafs in order in the second, third and fourth innings.
- The Cougars pulled ahead in the fifth inning capitalizing for five runs on two Goshen errors. Chris Triplett, Emilio Perez and Vincent Herschberger all recorded RBI singles.
- Leading 6-3, Spring Arbor added what turned out to be a very important insurance run in the eighth. Ondina came through with a clutch base hit to bring home Triplett.
- The home team closed the gap in the bottom of the frame. With three runs already in, the Maple Leafs had the bases loaded with two outs, but Herschberger would induce a fly out to end the threat. Herschberger would close out the game on the mound to earn his second save of the season.
- Ondina was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI's and a run scored. Driscoll also collected two hits and scored twice.
- Memmelaar earned the win going six innings allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
