AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team opened its Spring Break trip with a 4-3 setback at Ave Maria University on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Ave Maria jumped on top 4-0, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
• After being held scoreless through the first six innings, Spring Arbor capitalized for three runs on a pair of Gyrene errors in the seventh.
• The Cougars moved the potential tying run into scoring position in the eighth inning, but the runner was left stranded.
• Emilio Perez went 3-for-4 at the plate while Evan Lorey collected two hits in four at-bats. Jack Driscoll and Chris Triplett were each credited with an RBI.
• Sam Memmelaar surrendered four runs on six hits in a complete game effort while striking out nine batters.

Spring Arbor will close out its three-game series against Ave Maria with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is schedule for 11 a.m.
