SCORE: Spring Arbor 3, Taylor 6
LOCATION: Hank Burbridge Field | Spring Arbor, Mich.
RECORDS: Spring Arbor 22-21 (12-9 CL), Taylor 35-11 (15-6 CL)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taylor jumped on top early, scoring three runs in the first three innings. Spring Arbor starting pitcher Gavin Harris would settle in though and silence one of the Crossroads League's top offense over the next five frames.
- The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the third inning. A squeeze bunt by Jack Driscoll brought home Danilo Leon and a two-out single by Vincent Herschberger allowed Chris Triplett to cross the plate.
- The score remained 3-2 until the bottom of the eighth when Herschberger delivered another clutch hit to bring home the tying run. The Cougars threatened to score more, loading the bases with no outs, but were unable to capitalize.
- In the ninth, Francisco Ondina doubled with two outs to put the winning run in scoring position. After intentionally walking Herschberger, Evan Lorey scorched a line drive down the first base line, but a diving catch by the TU first baseman preserved the tie.
- The Trojans would tally three runs in the 10th inning and hold SAU scoreless to snap the Cougars' four-game winning streak.
- Five Cougars recorded two hits apiece, including Triplett, Ondina, Herschberger, Lorey and Jacob King.
- Harris pitched eight strong innings allowing just three runs on six hits while striking out three batters. Herschberger tossed the final two innings in relief and struck out three batters.
