FINAL SCORE: Spring Arbor 5, Huntington 6
LOCATION: Logansport HS | Logansport, Ind.
RECORDS: Spring Arbor 8-16 (1-3 CL), Huntington 7-6 (3-1 CL)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Huntington led 2-0 through three innings, but Spring Arbor tallied four straight runs across the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. An RBI double by Peyton Harding allowed Vincent Herschberger to touch home in the fourth. Then, a run-scoring single by Evan Lorey highlighted a three-run Cougar fifth.
- The Foresters capitalized on an SAU error to tie the score in the home half of the fifth.
- Conner Lengerich delivered the big hit in the seventh with a triple down the right field line to bring in the go-ahead run. The Cougars would have the chance to add to their lead in the eighth and ninth innings, but would ultimately leave the bases loaded in both frames.
- In the bottom of the ninth, after a ground out to start the inning, the next four Huntington batters would reach base safely while pushing the tying run across. With two outs and the bases loaded, HU's Jarret Gray dropped a pinch-hit single into right-center field to plate the winning run.
- Spring Arbor collected 13 hits in the game. Lorey went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while four other Cougars recorded two hits each.
- Duncan Patterson suffered the loss on the mound. Patterson allowed five earned runs over 8.2 innings of work and struck out six batters.
