Baseball wins pair on Day 2 of Warner Invitational

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team posted a pair of victories on day two of the Warner University Invitational. The Cougars defeated Siena Heights University 12-4 in the opener before dealing host Warner a 4-3 setback.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor and Siena Heights were tied 2-2 after two innings of play before the Cougars grabbed control with a six-run third. Jacob King highlighted the outburst with a three-run home run and Chris Triplett added a two-run bomb later in the frame.
  • In the seventh, freshman Zach Kraabel belted his first career homer, a solo shot putting SAU up 12-2.
  • Four different SAU players posted three hits in the game, including King, who also collected five RBI's. Conner Lengerich, Vincent Herschberger and Triplett also had three hits.
  • Duncan Patterson went the distance pitching all seven innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out five batters.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Warner plated the game's first run in the top of the second inning to take a quick lead, but Spring Arbor answered with four unanswered, scoring twice in the second and twice in the third.
  • Peyton Harding drove in SAU's first run with a base hit to right field. Then, Jacoby Dale brought in the go-ahead run with an RBI groundout.
  • The Cougars added to their lead in the third when King delivered a two-out, two-RBI double to left.
  • The Royals got one run back in the fifth inning, and scored once in the seventh to trim the deficit to one, 4-3. Then, with the tying run in scoring position, Gavin Harris came on in relief and struck out the next batter to end the threat.
  • King registered two of SAU's four hits along with two RBI's and a run scored.
  • Kraabel earned the win on the mound surrendering two runs on four hits over 4.2 innings of work.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will meet Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 11:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to face Madonna University at 3:30 p.m.
