Baseball splits doubleheader with Bethel on Senior Day

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team split a pair of Crossroads League games against Bethel College on Monday, winning the first game 10-1, as the two teams opened a three-game set at Hank Burbridge Field.

Prior to the first game of the day, head coach Ryan Marken and the Cougars recognized their six seniors – Zachariah Devon, Kyle Harris, Conner Lengerich, Duncan Patterson, Steve Salow and Chris Triplett.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the lid-lifter. The Cougars led 2-0 after three innings, but broke the game wide open with three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth.
  • Conner Lengerich hit his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot as part of the four-run fifth inning. He finished the game going 1-for-2 with three RBI's, bringing his season total to 41, which ranks second in the Crossroads League.
  • Chris Triplett was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, an RBI and two runs scored. Steve Salow picked up two hits, including a double, while Evan Lorey crossed the plate three times.
  • Duncan Patterson was outstanding on the mound as he tossed his seventh complete game of the campaign. The senior right-hander allowed just one run on three hits while fanning four batters over seven innings of work.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bethel avoided the doubleheader sweep by coming from behind to win game two, 7-6.
  • The Pilots trailed 6-4 entering the eighth inning, but manufacturing three runs on two hits, three walks and an SAU error.
  • Lorey recorded three of the Cougars' seven hits, falling just a home run short of the cycle. He also scored three runs and had one RBI. Triplett went 2-for-4 with three RBI's.
  • Jon Williams pitched the six innings allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Gavin Harris suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering four runs over the final three frames.

Spring Arbor and Bethel will play the series finale on Tuesday, Apr. 23 starting at 1 p.m. from Hank Burbridge Field.
