Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS – Starting pitcher Duncan Patterson struck out nine batters in a complete game performance to lead Spring Arbor University to a 2-1 win over Marian University in game one of Saturday's Crossroads League doubleheader.
Patterson surrendered one unearned run on just three hits in seven innings pitched while his nine strikeouts matched his season-high.
Marian defeated SAU in game two, 6-3, to earn the series win.
Spring Arbor finished the regular season sixth in the league standings and will begin play in the Crossroads League Tournament on Friday, May 3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor plated two runs in the first inning. Evan Lorey led off the game with a double, and two batters later, would score on a sacrifice fly by Conner Lengerich. Brant Mast followed with a base hit to bring home Chris Triplett.
- That would be all the support Patterson needed. The senior right-hander turned in a dominant performance on the mound, holding Marian to three hits and matching his season-high with nine strikeouts.
- Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights got the leadoff batter on, but Patterson retired the next three in order, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- A three-run fourth inning gave Marian a 4-2 lead.
- Spring Arbor got one run back in the top of the seventh. Lorey tripled to left-center to begin the inning and, two batters later, Lengerich singled to left to bring him in.
- The Knights responded with two runs in the home half of the seventh, however, to increase their lead to three, 6-3.
- Lorey went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Lengerich had a hit and two RBI's.
- Jon Williams pitched four innings and surrendering four unearned runs while fanning five batters. Gavin Harris pitched one inning of relief and struck out three.

Spring Arbor closes out the regular season with a non-conference game against Concordia University (33-15) on Tuesday, Apr. 30 at 4 p.m.
The Crossroads League Tournament is set to begin on Friday, May 3 and run through Tuesday, May 7.
