THE BASICS

SCORE: Spring Arbor 7, Rochester 4

LOCATION: Rochester Hills, Mich.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 14-19, Rochester 4-24

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rochester pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first inning, and threatened for more, but right fielder Zach Kraabel threw out a runner attempting to score to end the inning.
  • Kraabel kick-started a four-run second inning for Spring Arbor after opening the frame with a leadoff single, and he would later score on a successful suicide squeeze. Vincent Herschberger and Jacob King would also add RBI hits in the inning.
  • The Cougars added to their lead in the fifth. Kraable got things started, once again, with a leadoff triple. Two batters later, he would score on an RBI groundout by Josiah Kitchen.
  • The Warriors would get within one, 5-4, after plating single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • SAU added an insurance run in the seventh on a squeeze bunt by Steve Salow, and Evan Lorey touched home in the eighth on a groundout by Conner Lengerich.
  • Rochester threatened in the eighth, but Lorey ended the home team's rally by gunning down a runner at the plate to help preserve the lead.
  • Herschberger took over on the mound in the ninth and slammed the door shut, retiring the side in order to earn the save.
  • Kraabel and Chris Triplett recorded three hits apiece to pace the offense. Kraabel scored two runs while Triplett had an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases.
  • Lorey earned the win on the mound. He tossed two innings of relief, allowing one earned run while striking out four baters. Kraabel worked two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.
