Baseball falls twice to MVNU in Florida

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team dropped a pair of Crossroads League contests against Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Lake Wales, Florida on Friday. The Cougars lost the opener 10-6 before falling 12-6 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mount Vernon Nazarene jumped on top with two runs in the top of the first inning, but a two-RBI single by Jacob King in the home half of the first tied things up.
  • A Brandon Haynes sacrifice fly in the second inning and an RBI double by Vincent Herschberger put SAU up 4-2 after three innings of play.
  • Spring Arbor led 5-3 through five innings, but MVNU would plate two runs in the sixth and erupt for five in the seventh.
  • Zach Kraabel, Herschberger and Haynes collected two hits apiece.
  • Hunter Nielsen pitched four innings surrendering three runs on seven hits. Gavin Harris suffered the loss after giving up seven runs in three innings of work.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mount Vernon Nazarene built a 6-2 lead after four innings.
  • Spring Arbor struck for two in the sixth on a two-RBI single by Herschberger, closing the gap to two, 6-4.
  • MVNU responded immediately with two runs in the seventh before adding three in the eighth and one more in the ninth.
  • Herschberger went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and five RBI's. Brant Mast was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
