SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University track and field program hosted the fifth annual Bill Bippes Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Ralph G. Walker Memorial Track on the campus of SAU.
The Cougars had a strong showing with nine events wins and posting nine new program Top 10 marks, including one school record in the women's 4x100 meter relay. The team of
Alyssa Budd,
Kylie Brown,
Tanana Emmendorfer and
Hope Taylor turned in a 47.23 on their way to also hitting the NAIA B standard and qualifying for the national championships.
On the women's side, Spring Arbor picked up four event victories.
Kylie Brown captured the 200 meters with a time of 25.04,
Abagayle Barkley won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:46.42 – a mark that ranks eighth in program history – and Budd took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.69 meters.
Allison Teed added another win in the javelin with a throw of 33.35 meters.
Several Cougars also recorded marks that rank among the program's best.
Madyson Oudbier placed second in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:34.25, moving into ninth all-time at SAU. In the field events,
Leah Farley's discus throw of 36.95 meters and
Jasmine Mejia's hammer throw of 37.80 meters both rank eighth in program history.
On the men's side, the Cougars claimed five event wins.
Quintin Williams won the 100 meters in 10.62,
Caden Kyser took the 400 meters in 49.17,
Dean Reynolds captured the 1500 meters in 3:53.39, and
Camden Khon won the 5000 meters in 14:37.23. The 4x400 relay team – made up of
William Melton,
Benjamin Schefka, Jonah Teed and
Michael Brant – also earned a first-place finish with a time of 3:25.67.
Spring Arbor also added multiple program Top 10 marks on the men's side. Kyser's time of 22.10 in the 200 meters ranks ninth in school history, while
Elijah Dyer's 15.32 in the 110-meter hurdles ranks seventh. In the field events,
Connor Swihart recorded the third-best hammer throw in program history at 45.45 meters, and
Tristan MacLean added a sixth-place mark at 36.10 meters.
Spring Arbor travels to Hillsdale College for the Gina Relays on Apr. 16-18.
