HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University track and field teams competed at the 56th edition of the Hillsdale College GINA Relays, turning in a strong performance against a deep field consisting of many NCAA Division I and II programs.
The SAU men placed third out of 12 teams in the Championship division and ninth out of 16 in the Division I section, while the women finished sixth out of 17 teams in the Division I section.
The Cougars combined for five NAIA qualifying standards, four school records and four event wins over the three-day meet.
On the men's side,
Dean Reynolds led the way with an NAIA A standard in the 800 meters, winning the event in 1:49.94, which ranks second in program history.
Camden Khon followed closely behind with a runner-up finish in 1:50.07, also hitting the NAIA A standard and ranking third all-time at SAU.
On the women's side,
Alyssa Budd recorded an NAIA A qualifying mark in the long jump, placing third with a leap of 5.95 meters.
Spring Arbor also posted multiple NAIA B standards.
Chase Hobson earned an NAIA B mark while winning the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:16.58, while
Elijah Dyer hit the NAIA B standard with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (53.50).
The Cougars added several program record performances.
Quintin Williams broke the school record in the men's 100 meters with a winning time of 10.44. Hobson's steeplechase time of 9:16.58 also set a new program record. On the women's side, Budd's long jump mark ranks first in program history, while
Kylie Brown (56.62) and
Tanana Emmendorfer (56.75) now hold the top two times in school history in the 400 meters.
Spring Arbor totaled four event wins, all on the men's side. Williams (100m), Reynolds (800m), Dyer (400h) and Hobson (3000m steeplechase) each captured individual titles, while the 4x400 relay team, consisting of
Shane Paterson,
Benjamin Schefka,
Howard Teed and
Jack Bruder, also earned a first-place finish with a time of 3:26.90.
The Cougars also recorded several additional top-five finishes.
On the men's side, Khon placed second in the 800 meters, while Bruder finished fourth in the same event. Schefka added a fourth-place finish in the 800 open, and
Caiden Lambers placed fourth in the high jump.
For the women,
Madyson Oudbier placed second in the 10,000 meters, while
Alexis Brown added a fifth-place finish in the same event. Budd's third-place finish in the long jump and
Leah Farley's third-place finish in the discus also highlighted the weekend.
Spring Arbor also added several additional marks to the program Top 10 list:
