One glance at the achievements and honors obtained by Anthony M. Luttrell during his track and cross country career at Spring Arbor College and it is clear why he is credited by his former coach with "dominating the sport of cross country for four years." Luttrell was an All-American in cross country his senior year as he finished ninth in the national meet, the highest finish ever for an SAC runner. He was named NAIA District 23 Most Valuable Player in cross country for the 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons, during which time he had an incredible 30 consecutive regular season wins.
As a junior, Luttrell earned All-American honors in track with a third place finish in the 5000 meters and also set SAC's varsity record of 14:07, which still holds. An injury kept him from competing in indoor track during his senior season. Luttrell was NAIA District 23 champion for the mile indoor in 1976 and 77, 2-mile indoor from 1974-76 and 3-mile outdoor in 1976 and 77. At the conclusion of Luttrell's sophomore season, he had set nine course records and his average winning margin over the second place man was more than 30 seconds.
Luttrell still holds three Spring Arbor College indoor track records in the mile, 2-mile, and 3-mile, as well as outdoor 2-mile, 3-mile, and 5000 meters. He also set a Fieldhouse record in the 2-mile at Eastern Michigan University. The Spring Arbor College Athletic Department presented The Don McDonald Award to Luttrell during his junior year. This award recognizes the highest achievement in SAC athletics.
Luttrell graduated with honors from Spring Arbor College in 1977, a biology major with a minor in chemistry. He earned an MBA with a concentration in information technology from Oakland University and graduated from the executive development program from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.
