Christine Chaney Miller excelled as a student athlete at Spring Arbor College. Her scoring average of 17.8 points per game held the SAC women's basketball record for 20 years, from 1975 until 95. In addition, Miller held SAC records in assists, steals and rebounds. She was named Most Valuable Player in basketball during each season from 1973 to 75. Coaches agree that Miller would likely have qualified for NAIA All-District and All-American honors had such awards been available to women athletes during Miller's years at Spring Arbor.
Miller's volleyball acumen was equally impressive, as she led the team in serving and was named Most Valuable Player during her two seasons of play, 1974 and 75. Coaches and teammates describe Miller as a leader on and off the floor, giving her best in every situation.
A 1975 graduate of Spring Arbor College with a physical education major, Miller joined the ranks of the staff in 1979 and quickly excelled as a coach. Having developed the College's softball program, Miller coached her team to the level of state AIAW champions in only two years. Her previous coaching experience was at Jackson Northwest High School, where her girl's basketball team won the league championship during the 1975-76 season. Miller also served as Spring Arbor's assistant women's basketball coach for four years.
